Rush to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award at Golden Gods Awards

Veteran prog rockers Rush will be honored for their years of excellence at the upcoming Revolver Golden Gods Awards ceremony. The Canadian band will receive the Ronnie James Dio Lifetime Achievement award at the event, set to take place on April 11 at Club Nokia in Los Angeles. Jack Black and Kyle Gass of Tenacious D will present the honor, according to Ultimate Classic Rock.

“We are honored and delighted to receive this honor – especially because it will be presented by Jack and Kyle,” Rush drummer Neil Peart said. “Our ‘lifetimes’ are not over yet, and we dearly hope our ‘achievements’ are not either, so I suppose you could say that to us this is the ‘So Far, So Good’ award.”

Black also had this to say about Rush: “Rush was the most impressive band, musically, when I was just learning about rock. Weirdly, they got your body moving in interpretive-dancing ways, but it was still aggressive. Their stuff was just so complex and so tasty!”

Slash, Joe Bonamassa Win Guitar Awards

Guitar International feted two of Gibson heroes last week with major awards.

Joe Bonamassa was voted Guitarist of the Year in honor of his new album Dustbowl and Black Country Communion’s world tour and live DVD.

“Though still a young 34 years of age, this guitar slinger has accomplished more than most players could imagine to achieve in a lifetime, and 2011 was a testament to the hard work, dedication and hours spent in the practice room and on the bandstand by this guitar great,” Guitar International said in a statement.

And our man Slash was given a Lifetime Achievement Award. “A guitarist who has revived his career (twice, with his recent solo albums after Velvet Revolver’s demise), played with Michael Jackson, Alice Cooper and many more music icons, and held his commitment to rock over his entire career certainly deserves Guitar International’s Lifetime Achievement Award. And with his impeccable track record, one can only assume Slash has much more rock ’n’ roll in the tank.”

As a matter of fact, he does – and the engine is revving up now for a new album due later this year. Congrats, Joe and Slash!

Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood Wins More Radio Awards

Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood now has a flourishing broadcasting career. On Wednesday, Wood received two prestigious radio awards in London.

Last year, Wood began broadcasting his own show on the Absolute Classic Rock radio station and picked up the Music Radio Personality of the Year honor at the Sony Radio Academy Awards. He now can add to that award, the Specialist Programme of the Year and Newcomer of the Year honors from London's Arqiva Commercial Radio awards.

Legendary DJ, David "Kid" Jensen was given the Lifetime Achievement Award. Jensen, alongside his good friend John Peel, was hugely influential in breaking indie music in the U.K. in the '70s and '80s.

Foo Fighters Debut New Video, Play MTV Movie Awards

The music video for the new Foo Fighters single, “Walk,” is getting an extensive rollout. The video, which was inspired by the Michael Douglas film, Falling Down, debuted earlier this week on MTV, MTV.com and VH1.com.

This Sunday (June 5), the Foos will perform the song live during the 2011 MTV Movie Awards show. In addition, the documentary film, Back and Forth, which chronicles the group’s career, will be released on iTunes on Monday (June 7). One week later, a DVD version with 35 minutes of extra footage will be available through retail outlets, with a Blu-ray version being sold exclusively at Best Buy.

In the next few days, Foo Fighters are expected to announce a slew of new tour dates.

Foo Fighters to Perform at MTV Movie Awards

MTV has announced that Foo Fighters will perform at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards. According to the announcement on MTV.com, Dave Grohl and company will perform “Walk,” from their new album Wasting Light, at the June 5 ceremony.

The 2011 MTV Movie Awards will be broadcast live from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California. The program will be hosted by actor/comedian Jason Sudeikis. Presenters include Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Steve Carell, Emma Stone, Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Josh Duhamel, Patrick Dempsey, Cameron Diaz, Jason Segel, Jesse Eisenberg, Aziz Ansari, Danny McBride, Nicki Minaj, Selena Gomez, Leighton Meester and Katie Cassidy.

Foo Fighters’ North American tour continues Monday at the Mid America Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Kid Rock to Host CMT Awards

Kid Rock has revealed that he’ll be hosting the CMT Awards for the second year in a row. The “Born Free” singer will emcee the awards show in Nashville on June 8.

“Hosting the CMT Awards was a wonderful bridge to a great afterparty,” he told Us Weekly. “I’m looking forward to crossing that bridge again this year.”

After coming up in Detroit’s hip-hop scene, Kid Rock became a rock-rap star, then embraced the “heartland rock” of his hero Bob Seger, and now has been welcomed into the country music community. In addition to hosting last year’s CMT Awards, he’s performed at other country music awards shows and television specials. Rock is up for an award at this year’s show; he’s nominated for Collaborative Video of the Year for “Collide” with Sheryl Crow.

Other nominees include Jason Aldean (with four nods), Lady Antebellum, Miranda Lambert, Rascal Flatts, Taylor Swift and the Zac Brown Band (with three each). The show will air live at 8 p.m. EST on June 8 on CMT.

Steve Miller, Jason Lee Confirmed for Blues Music Awards

The 32nd Annual Blues Music Awards will start with bang—or at least, a bingo—this year, as it has just been announced that the Steve Miller Band will open the festivities on May 5. Miller’s latest album, Bingo!, garnered the Space Cowboy his first-ever BMA nomination this year. Miller is no stranger to the blues, having cut his teeth as a sideman on Chicago’s famous blues scene, playing alongside the likes of Howlin’ Wolf and Muddy Waters.

Also appearing at the awards, as a presenter, will be actor Jason Lee, star of the TNT show, Memphis Beat. Lee himself closes many episodes of the show performing blues songs and Elvis covers live on stage. BMA winner Keb’ Mo’ arranges and performs much of the program’s music. The show also features Steve Cropper playing guitar on the theme song.
