Mötley Crüe and KISS to Announce Co-Headlining Tour Next Week

Get ready to get twice your bang for your buck, as Motley Crue singer Vince Neil has dropped the news that the Crue will be co-headlining a colossal U.S. tour with KISS that’s set to run from July to September, according to the Las Vegas Sun. Look for the official tour announcement to drop next week.

“It’s going to be really cool because KISS is bringing their full stage show, and Motley will be bringing our full stage show, so you are going to see two huge headliners at the same time,” Vince said. “It’s going to be one of the biggest tours of the summer, if not the biggest.”

Motley Crue are also set to rock a solo June tour in Moscow. Vince is stoked for it. He says the guys have hundreds of thousands of loyal fans in Russia. “I’m really looking forward to being there. It’s going to be a great summer!”

The Crue just wrapped a two-and-a-half week residency at the Hard Rock Hotel’s Joint in Las Vegas last month, and guitarist Mick Mars exclusively told Gibson.com that he feels the Crue are “breaking the ice” when it comes to rock bands having their own residencies.

“I’m an old-school type of person. When it comes to residencies, I think Motley Crue is kind of breaking the ice in that area, because when I think of residencies, I think of the older names and non-rock acts,” he said. “So, I feel like it’s what we did with the Roxy in Los Angeles with the rock scene. We were the first unsigned band to play there, which opened up a whole new area for bands that were unsigned to play. So, we could be doing the same thing here. I don’t know – I don’t have a crystal ball [laughs]. But, I’m guessing stuff like that will happen.”

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band Announce Tour

The Boss is back with a vengeance in 2012. He’s releasing a new album. He’s giving the keynote address at South by Southwest. And now, he’s announced he’ll be hitting the road for a string of U.S. dates with the E Street Band, according to Rolling Stone.

Bruce Springsteen and pals will begin a 19-date tour on March 18 at Phillips Arena in Atlanta. The trek will wind its way up the East Coast, including multiple dates in New Jersey and at Madison Square Garden, before hitting New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and wrapping up May 2 in Newark. The group will tour Europe in the summer and return for another North American trek in the fall.

It will be the first E Street Band tour without saxophonist Clarence Clemons, who died last year. There’s no word on if Clemons spot in the group will be filled by another player. Springsteen’s new studio album, Wrecking Ball, will be released on March 6.

Soundgarden Announce Only U.S. Festival Appearance

Soundgarden are the first headliners to be revealed for this year’s Voodoo Experience fest. The three-day music and arts event will take place in New Orleans’ City Park on October 28-30. Soundgarden will headline the festival on October 28, according to Blabbermouth.net.

The lineup for the 13th annual Voodoo Experience will be rolled out in the coming months, prior to the Halloween weekend event. Tickets are available now at www.thevoodooexperience.com.

Soundgarden, who reunited last year, have a run of dates planned in July in North America. The summer tour begins July 2 in Toronto, Canada, and continues through July 30 in George, Washington (a show that also features Queens of the Stone Age, Mastodon and the Meat Puppets).

The Shins Announce First Concert in Two Years

After a prolonged hiatus, indie rockers The Shins are returning to the stage. The Portland, Oregon, band have announced that they will play the Outside Lands Festival in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park, which runs August 12-14, according to NME.com.

Frontman James Mercer spent his time off working on a collaboration with Danger Mouse called Broken Bells. The band underwent a few major changes, too. Keyboardist Marty Crandall and drummer Jesse Sandoval left the band and were replaced by Ron Lewis and Joe Plummer from Modest Mouse. The Shins also left Sub Pop Records for Mercer’s label – Aural Apothecary.

Reportedly, the band are working on their first release on the label, due later this year. The Shins’ last album was 2007’s Wincing the Night Away.

Soundgarden Announce Tour Dates, Progress on New Album

Soundgarden have just unveiled their first four tour dates of 2011: Beginning July 2 in Toronto, the tour will then hit Philadelphia, Denver and Los Angeles.

Guitarist Kim Thayil also told Spinner.com this week that the reunited Soundgarden are at work in Seattle on their first studio album in 15 years. This follows the release last month of their 1996 concert recording, Live on I-5.

“[The new album] is pretty developed in the writing process,” reports Thayil. “We’ve been at it since December, January. We’re still writing, but we have a number of songs that are complete, a number of songs that are close to being completed and a number of songs that look like they just woke up … We probably, after 13, 14 years, have new things to bring to the table. Our interests have gone off in slightly different directions, but at our core we’re still moved by the things that informed Soundgarden’s body of work, which is the sort of dark beauty, heaviness and an aggressiveness without being viscerally old and awkward. There’s gonna be a lot that’s familiar and similar. There’s gonna be stuff that’s definitely different; the stuff that’s different however will be within the context of those elements that are described earlier.”

When asked to estimate a release date for the new album, Thayil said, “We are not going to pressure ourselves and we’re not likely to let other people pressure us. I believe that can really stress out and put a lot of pressure on a band. It’s very likely that if a deadline is set for us, [there’s a] good chance we'll let it pass. We’re not gonna do anything to make what we’re doing un-fun.”
