More on Beach Boys Summer Tour

Mike Love says the reformed Beach Boys will play “four or five shows a week” next summer.

The NME reports that the Beach Boys, who recently announced their reunion, are going to be busy during their 2012 50th anniversary tour. Dates have not been announced but they are confirmed as headliners for the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival that runs from April 27 to May 6.

Mike Love told Rolling Stone that they plan on using the musicians form Brain Wilson’s band: “Brian Wilson has an incredible band. We’re using most of his band. And we’ve got [current Beach Boys touring] drummer John Cowsill and our guitarist, Scott Totten. We’re kind of blending things together. I think, musically, it’s going to be incredible.”

Journey to Get ‘Funky’ on Summer Tour

Journey are in the midst of a big summer tour, and they’re trying to figure out the best way to incorporate their new songs with their back catalog of hits. The veteran rockers have just released a new studio album, Eclipse – their second with singer Arnel Pineda and are trekking the globe with Foreigner, Styx, Night Ranger, Kansas and others.

Guitarist Neal Schon recently told Ultimate Classic Rock about Journey’s set list selection.

“We have the greatest hits – we have to play that every night,” he said. “We have all these great ballads, which have already proven themselves and people wanna hear every night, so I mean, where do we find room to stick more of this new stuff in our set, when we have an hour-and-a-half to play?

“I felt there were a lot of grooves that we were missing in our set; funky rock grooves and stuff like that, and I just felt ready for more [of] what I wanted to play on stage.”

So, fans can expect a slightly funkier Journey on the road. The band are making their way through Europe right now and will begin the American leg of their tour (with Foreigner and Night Ranger) in mid-July.

Blink-182 Talk New Album, Summer Tour

After more than a year of working on new material, Blink-182 will finally be ready to premiere some new songs when they hit the road this August. The punk-pop hitmakers recently announced a tour with My Chemical Romance; the trek begins August 5 in Holmdel, New Jersey.

“That’s what we’re most excited about,” drummer Travis Barker told Rolling Stone. “It’s the first time there will be new music in nine years.”

In between now and the tour’s launch, Blink will be hard at work on the new album.

“We have until July 31st to hand the record in, and I think we’ll use every single day until then, as always,” singer and bassist Mark Hoppus said.

Singer-guitarist Tom DeLonge added: “We thought we were closing in on the end, and literally a week ago we pumped out a whole set of stuff that I think will be some of the best on the album. Recording is never really finished. You slide or limp into home base.”

Prince, Eagles to Headline Summer Festival

Prince will play his first U.K. concert since 2007 and his first-ever U.K. festival show this summer. The Purple One has been announced as one of the headliners for 2011’s Hop Farm Festival, taking place July 1-3 in Kent, England.

Prince will headline on July 3 (his only U.K. appearance this year, according to organizers), the Eagles will top the bill on July 1 and Morrissey will headline on July 2. Other performers include Iggy and the Stooges, Death Cab for Cutie, Lou Reed, Bryan Ferry and many others.

Nikki Sixx: Summer Tour is ‘Child’s Play’

Nikki Sixx is a busy guy these days. He’s got a radio show, his band SIXX:AM and new book, titled This is Gonna Hurt, with an accompanying album and documentary series. Oh, and of course, he’s still in Motley Crue. In an interview with Spinner.com, Sixx said he wants to take advantage of the opportunities he’s granted.

“It’s tiring, but at the same time it’s really exciting,” he said. “I will never have this experience again, so why would I ever take it for granted?”

He said that he loves that he gets to be in both SIXX:AM and Crue, who have a big tour planned this summer.

“We’re going on tour for two and a half months, which is child’s play compared to the old days,” he said. “We’re going around America with Poison and New York Dolls, and South America with Buckcherry. We haven't scheduled any European dates yet.

“Sixx:AM opened for Motley Crue on the Crue Fest before and I actually had more energy playing in two bands every night than I do with one. I think energy creates more energy. I have this way of looking at things that continues to catapult me and everyone around me into new and positive experiences, and it just keeps getting better.”

Sixx remains optimistic about his, and Motley’s, future.

“I truly feel that Motley Crue have some of our best days ahead of us,” he said. “It’s hard work, but it’s exciting.”

See Who’s Playing Glastonbury This Summer

The full Glastonbury lineup is out!  To be held June 24-26 at Worthy Farm in Somerset, England, the festival will feature headliners U2, Coldplay and Beyonce. In addition, The Mirror reports today that Kanye West, Gwyneth Paltrow, Chris Martin and husband Jay-Z will join the former Destiny’s Child member on stage during the festival.

Though Glastonbury is technically already sold out, refunded and cancelled tickets will go on sale this Sunday, April 17, at 9 a.m. via www2.seetickets.com/g2011/?.
