Trent Reznor Plans Nine Inch Nails Return
Trent Reznor plans to return to active service in his old job as Nine Inch Nails this year, after spending most of his time working on soundtracks in recent years.
In an interview with Billboard, Reznor said he was getting ready to work on new NIN material, but was not yet sure what form the music would take. “It’s all kind of hypothetical right now,” Reznor said. “When I sit down with a notebook and a little mini-recorder is when my bluff will be called, and then it might not happen at all.”
Reznor admitted he was at first unsure whether to use the Nine Inch Nails name for the new material. “At the moment it’s going to live in the Nine Inch Nails column, for a few reasons. I enjoy the challenge of moving that kind of brand forward, that identity, shaping it to who I am now instead of who I was a few years ago when I last left off.”
Nine Inch Nails have been in mothballs since 2009. Reznor’s recent works include the soundtracks to the David Fincher films The Social Network and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo as well as his other band, How to Destroy Angels, with wife Mariqueen Maandig and Atticus Ross. How to Destroy Angels’ first full-length album also is due this year. There is no word yet on whether Reznor plans to bring NIN back to the live stage as well.

Trent Reznor Plans New NIN Music in 2012
Trent Reznor has recently been immersed in movie soundtracks. His music for David Fincher’s The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo movie is three hours long – longer than the film itself.
But Reznor has told BBC Radio One that he would be writing with Nine Inch Nails “in mind” next year. “I’ll spend a good portion of 2012 writing for Nine Inch Nails,” he says. “Let’s see what happens.”
Of his NIN hiatus, also interrupted by his other band How to Destroy Angels, Reznor reflects: “I need[ed] to commit to doing something different, and that doesn’t mean I’m not going to return to Nine Inch Nails at some point.
“But I find myself pushed and pulled back into the same routine of album, tour, album, tour, album, tour, while a list of things I’d like to try and do in life sits untouched on the table.”
In 2009, Reznor said that Nine Inch Nails would be winding down and no longer play live. After a break, it looks like he may be rethinking.
On The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Reznor and Karen O cover Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song.” It is free to download now via iTunes. The soundtrack for The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is out December 9.

Dave Lombardo Talks Big Four Rivalry and Plans for New Slayer Album
In a new interview with GeeksofDoom.com, Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo addressed the rumors of rivalry between the Big Four, which also includes Metallica, Megadeth and Anthrax. He also spoke of progress on a new Slayer album.
Asked about playing as part of the Big Four, Lombardo called it “exciting,” saying: “Every time there’s more in the pipe for us to play on. I, at least, am looking forward to hanging out with the other guys and doing these festivals that are amazing.”
Lombardo also said that he leaves the much talked-about decades of dissension between Big Four band members to the groups’ guitarists.
“I can’t really speak for anybody else, but there was never any rivalry from myself with the bands,” said Lombardo. “I never had issues with any of them. I’m sure maybe with other guitar, er, musicians within the bands, maybe, of course there would have been … Twenty years… God, you can imagine the egos and the arrogance and attitude most musicians carry around with them when they haven’t grown up.”
When pressed about his reference to rivalry between Big Four guitarists, Lombardo said, “I don’t know, I feel like drummers… we get along a lot better than guitar players do with each other… There’s one thing that we all have in common, which all us drummers have, is we like to share what we do. There’s no secret. I think guitar players tend to be a little more secretive and a little more passionate. Well, maybe passionate isn’t the right word, but they’re a little more secretive about their tricks and whatever they do. And 20 years ago, man, I tell ya, it was the same thing.”
Having resumed his spot in Slayer in 2002 following a 10-year-absence, Lombardo said that he’s not going anywhere.
“Although there’s nothing written but there [are] definitely plans [for another Slayer album]. Of course. We have to! Why not? I’m not retiring, and I don’t think Kerry [King]’s retiring either.”
Lombardo said that he draws inspiration from an unlikely musical source:
“Charlie Watts [Rolling Stones drummer] is somebody I look up to and, for someone to be on those drums for as long as he’s been up there, then I’m on my way. I’m right behind him, man. I’m one of those guys. I like longevity, and a true musician never abandons his art.”

Jimmy Buffett Plans Margaritaville Video Game
Jimmy Buffett and THQ are working to bring a Buffett-themed video game to Facebook, iPad, iPhone and iPod this fall. Margaritaville Online will present an interactive experience to fans of Buffett’s music and books and for people who play social Facebook games like FarmVille.
“The Margaritaville laidback state of mind is inherently social, and THQ has captured the spirit of that lifestyle in this game,” said Buffett, according to Billboard.com. “With Margaritaville Online, fans across the globe can party together any time and any place.”
That’s right, Parrotheads will be able to hang out in 3D environments, listen to Buffett’s full catalog, interact with characters from his novels, play mini-games and even start their own bands. It’s quite possible that players also will be able to enjoy virtual cheeseburgers in the virtual paradise.
Buffett’s not the only music star to get involved with social gaming – both Lady Gaga and Dr. Dre have promoted new music via CityVille and Mafia Wars, respectively – although he is the first to engage in such a detailed game.

Keith Richards Reveals New Album Plans, Favorite Beatles Song
Rolling Stones legend Keith Richards appeared on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon Wednesday night in an interview filled with stories of drug-laden Bentleys, the Beatles-Stones rivalry and giant lemons. Among the many tales, though, was a spicy tidbit about Richards’ own plans for 2011.
When asked whether the Stones would be working together this year, Richards answered evasively, “I’m trying to nail them down, but I don’t want to crucify them.”
Fallon revealed that he had visited Richards working in a New York recording studio two weeks before.
“Well, I’d got to working with [drummer] Steve Jordan with The X-pensive Winos and, you know, when inspiration hits…yeah,” he enthused. Richards went on to say that a new X-pensive Winos album was “starting to blossom.”
Richards later answered a fan question, asking the guitar legend to name his favorite Beatles song:
“I’ve always told McCartney, ‘Please Please Me.’ I just love the chimes, and I was there at the time and it was beautiful. Mind you, there’s plenty of others, but if I’ve got to pick one, ‘Please Please Me’…oh, yeah!”
Richards will appear in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, which hits theaters on May 20.

Slash: No Velvet Revolver Plans for 2 Years
Slash has said that he does not see Velvet Revolver working together for at least another couple of years.
The hard rock band have yet to replace singer Scott Weiland, who departed in 2008. Recent rumors that Slipknot’s Corey Taylor might get the gig have been quashed.
Slash told Vorterix.com: “We did work with Corey Taylor, and as soon as that rumor [got around], next thing you know, everybody is saying Corey’s the new singer... All we were doing was just rehearsing with him and trying him out – auditioning him... It just didn’t seem to fit right to me. And he’s great – and I love Corey – but it didn’t seem like the answer to the Velvet Revolver problem.”
As for the future, he said: “Duff’s got his own thing, I’ve got my thing, Matt’s got his thing... Next year I definitely will make another Slash record with Myles Kennedy and go on tour. So at least for the next couple of years, nothing is going to be happening with Velvet Revolver that I can see ’cause I’ll be focused on this. And after that’s over, if something happens... I’m just not really concerning myself with it right now. We had all these different guys try out, all really good singers, but nobody has fit the thing, so, you know, I have to move on.”
