Red Hot Chili Peppers Postpone Tour Due to Anthony Kiedis’s Foot Injuries

The Red Hot Chili Peppers have been forced to postpone the start of their upcoming U.S. tour in order for frontman Anthony Kiedis to recover from multiple foot injuries.

On Sunday (January 8), the singer was seen hobbling and on crutches at a L.A. Lakers basketball game. Kiedis has suffered ongoing problems with foot fractures dating back to the Chili Peppers’ 2006 Stadium Arcadium tour. In August of 2011, he said, “I stayed out on tour with broken bones in my feet from jumping off the bass drum, which is kind of agonizing, and it led to me being in a bad state of mind.”

Kiedis recently underwent surgery to remove a crushed sesamoid bone and to correct a detached flexor tendon in his foot. He is expected to make a full recovery.

Tickets for the postponed dates will be honored at the rescheduled dates. The band is touring in support of their Grammy-nominated album, I’m With You.

Chili Peppers’ Flea and Blur’s Damon Albarn Talk New Group: Rocketjuice and the Moon

It may be an unlikely liaison, but Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea and Blur frontman Damon Albarn have recorded an album and are rehearsing for live shows. The third key member of Rocketjuice and the Moon is Fela Kuti drummer Tony Allen. There are also guest appearances from Erykah Badu, the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble and many others.

“We met on a plane in 2008,” bassist/trumpeter Flea told Mojo magazine. “The three of us were going to Lagos as part of Damon’s Africa Express Collective. I’m a huge Fela Kuti fan and Tony [Allen] is one of my favourite drummers, so to get to talk and play with him was phenomenal. The way I approach rhythm and groove is very similar to the way he does, and I feel with him a special something that is hard to put into words… but it’s a beautiful thing.”

“We were going to meet someday,” added Allen. “It feels like I’ve been playing with Flea for many years.”

Albarn agreed that, “Everything just fell into place. It felt special being in a room together.”

Rocketjuice and the Moon’s self-titled debut album is due for release in March and has been recorded in London with overdubs in Paris, Berlin and Chicago. What on earth will it sound like? “It is all funk,” Allen told Mojo.

Albarn and his Blur bandmates will receive an Outstanding Contribution Award at February 2012’s BRITs ceremony in London. Flea, meanwhile, will also be playing festival shows with Red Hot Chili Peppers in summer 2012.

Red Hot Chili Peppers to Perform at Exclusive New Year’s Eve Bash

The Red Hot Chili Peppers are set to perform at perhaps the world’s most expensive New Year’s Eve bash, London’s The Telegraph has reported. Roman Abramovich, the billionaire Russian oligarch known for throwing extravagant parties, has hired the veteran rockers to entertain at the exclusive event, which will be held at Abramovich’s estate on the Caribbean island of St Barts. The 45-year-old Abramovich, who owns the Chelsea football club, is spending more than 5 million pounds (approximately $7,850,000) to entertain the 300 guests expected to attend. Those invited have been told to wear “island chic” to the celebration, which will run from 10 pm to 4 am. The Chili Peppers take-home pay for the performance has not been revealed. In other news, however, the New York Post has reported that Stevie Wonder will be compensated $1 million to sing at this year’s New Year’s Eve celebration at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas.

GN’R, Beasties, Chili Peppers Inducted into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced its class of 2012. The new inductees include Guns N’ Roses, the Beastie Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Donovan, The Small Faces/Faces and Laura Nyro.

Expect the next four months leading up to the April ceremony to be rife with reunion speculation regarding the Appetite for Destruction-era lineup of GN’R. The Faces induction also presents a reunion opportunity, as the majority of the members have been touring recently with Simply Red singer Mick Hucknall, and not Rod Stewart. Might the lads get back together?

For those keeping score, the nominated acts that didn’t make the cut include Heart, War, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Rufus, Donna Summer, The Spinners and Eric B. and Rakim. Better luck next year.

Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith Names the Best Burger in the World

Rock stars love their burgers. Just ask Chad Smith, drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Chickenfoot. Smith stopped by Hunter House restaurant in his old stomping grounds of Birmingham, Michigan, last weekend, and he declared the diner has the best burgers on the planet.

“I grew up in this area for 38 of my years,” Smith, 50, told the Observer & Eccentric. “My mom still lives here and I come to visit her as often as possible ... but when I was a kid I used to ride my bike from Telegraph Road and I would come here to the Hunter House for their hamburgers...”

The ride from Telegraph to Hunter House is a long one, but Smith says it’s worth it, since, “these hamburgers, they’re just incredible. There’s a secret ingredient in the Hunter House hamburgers – I don’t know what they do.”

He went on to declare they’re the best burgers in the world! Coming from someone who’s likely had a burger in every state, that’s a major compliment. “I’ve traveled quite a bit. I do get around, and I like my hamburgers,” Smith said. “Nothing beats Hunter House – no doubt, hands down, the finest hamburger in the world.”

Side note: You know the old adage that dad is always right? Well, this writer’s dad – who grew up in Birmingham – has said for years that Hunter House has the best hamburgers on the planet. Father knows best!

Chili Peppers’ Anthony Kiedis Reveals Genesis of <em>I’m With You</em>

When it came to naming what is likely the most anticipated rock album of the year, why did Red Hot Chili Peppers pick the simple moniker, I’m With You? As frontman Anthony Kiedis explains, the epiphany came after dreaming up and ditching a long list of possible titles.  

“As an experiment, I started making lists of titles, and all of them, in retrospect, were quite lame, and none of them really captured the spirit of this record, which we had all very much fallen in love with,” Kiedis told MTV News.

Then, new lead guitarist Josh Klinghoffer had a moment of genius.

“Josh showed up one day, maybe a day before there was some sort of deadline for a title, and he wrote [I’m With You] on a piece of paper,” he said, “And very subtly scooched it [in front of me], and I was like, ‘What’s that?’”

Band members glanced at the name “at the same time and went: ‘That is the title of our record.’”

Klinghoffer said the name seemed sublime. It represents where the Peppers are at this point in their careers.

“It seems pretty open, pretty apropos to where the band is, what the band’s doing, how the record wants to be related to, or related with,” Klinghoffer said.

I’m With You hits stores and online retailers on August 30.

Red Hot Chili Peppers Release New Album Tracklisting

The tracklisting for Red Hot Chili Peppers’ 10th album, I’m With You has been announced.

According to NME.com, the record will be released August 29 and was produced by Rick Rubin. Earlier reports have suggested that the album would be titled, Dr. Johnny Skinz's Disproportionately Rambunctious Polar Express Machine-head.
