Record Store Day Ambassador Ozzy Osbourne has been talking about his love for the old vinyl format for records. He told USA Today that he thinks vinyl sounds better: “If you don’t listen to vinyl for a while and you hear it again, it sounds much better.”
He’s also pleased to see vinyl making something of a comeback. “It’s exciting that young bands are making records on vinyl. The big corporations make everything so miniaturized. And when you buy the iPod or the iPad or the i-whatever, six months later it’s obsolete and you have to buy a new gadget.”
Osbourne’s contribution to Record Store Day on April 16 will be a vinyl single of “Flying High Again” and vinyl albums Blizzard of Ozz and Diary of a Madman.
Osbourne also laments the day of record shop in-store appearances: “The only chance I get to see my fans at close proximity is at meet-and-greets backstage at my gigs. I used to do in-stores and sign albums and have a chat with them.”
