Legendary Rock Photographer Auctions Photos for Amnesty International

Revered British rock photographer David Redfern, who has been snapping rock and roll royalty since the ’60s, is auctioning some of his personal favorites for charity.

The photos will be auctioned at Dreweatt’s Clifton auction room in Bristol on January 24 on behalf of Amnesty International.

Most of the photographs are from his archive of pictures taken since the early ’60s, many of which are signed by him, but the collection also includes several iconic images, amongst which is the famous shot of Mick Jagger wearing the “white dress” costume at the now legendary 1969 Hyde Park concert, the first Pink Floyd lineup (with Syd Barrett), rare photos of David Bowie and an unusual picture of Count Basie lighting Princess Margaret’s cigarette. There also is a poster of the Bob Dylan photo shot for his Nashville Skyline album by American photographer Elliott Landy, which is signed and dedicated to Redfern by Landy.

Colin Richardson from Books for Amnesty Bristol, said: “This is a rare opportunity to buy some very sought after photographs by one of the most important music photographers of our time.”

The auction takes place at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 24 at the Apsley Rd., Clifton saleroom room.

All proceeds from the donated lots will go to the human rights organization, Amnesty International U.K. For more information about the auction room, please go here.
