Slash to Play on Steven Adler’s Album

Although there’s still plenty of uncertainty surrounding a potential Guns N’ Roses reunion at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in April, we do know that at least two original GN’R members are working together. Guitar god Slash is lending a few licks to former Guns N’ Roses drummer Steven Adler’s forthcoming album.

“Looking forward to laying down some guitars on a song for Steven Adler’s new record tomorrow night,” Slash tweeted on Wednesday.

It seems that Slash is paying back Adler, who played drums on the guitarist’s self-titled debut album. Adler performed on “Baby Can’t Drive,” which also featured Red Hot Chili Pepper Flea on bass and Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger on vocals.

There’s no word on the title or release date for Adler’s record; Slash’s new album, Apocalyptic Love, is due out May 22.

Steven Tyler, Joe Perry Will Team Up on <em>Tonight Show</em>

Aerosmith members Steven Tyler and Joe Perry will collaborate for a performance later this week on NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, according to Ultimate Classic Rock. Tyler had already been booked on the show on Friday, January 20, with Ryan Seacrest and Randy Jackson to promote the new season of American Idol.

The Aerosmith singer and guitarist reportedly will team up with bassist Jackson (who was in Journey briefly) for a performance. Perry will be in Los Angeles for work on the forthcoming Aerosmith album, due later this year.

In addition, Perry will return to Leno’s show 10 days later. He posted on Twitter: “Performing ‘Man of Peace’ on Jay Leno Jan 30th for Amnesty International with some friends @RudyTanzi Paul Santo & Dave Hull.” The performance will be to promote Chimes of Freedom: The Songs of Bob Dylan Honoring 50 Years of Amnesty International.

Steven Tyler Talks New Aerosmith Album

Rock legend and reality TV star Steven Tyler has been talking to the press to promote the upcoming season of American Idol. The talent competition’s new season (the second to feature the singer) begins next Wednesday, January 18.

But Tyler’s also been discussing his other project – that little band known as Aerosmith. Speaking at a Television Critics Association press conference, Tyler talked about the progress being made on the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers’ new album.

“All of it’s been written, but I gotta lay lyrics on it and I haven’t had a lot of time,” he said, according to Blabbermouth. “But what I’ve listened to so far just knocked me out. I know a good song, I know what’s gonna get played on the radio, I’m not that pretentious to say I think we’ve got hits, but I think we’ve got something, and that’s all that matters.”

Previously, the album was rumored to be coming out this spring.

Steven Tyler, Alice Cooper and Weird Al ‘Come Together’ (with Video)

Alice Cooper played a New Year’s Eve Show in Maui, Hawaii, last weekend and he was joined by some extra-special guests during his show. Cooper and company rang in the new year at the Wailea Beach Marriott Resort & Spa as part of an event that also featured “Weird Al” Yankovic, and Michael McDonald and Pat Simmons of The Doobie Brothers, according to hennemusic.

But the big surprise came when Steven Tyler joined the band for a couple of Aerosmith classics – “Sweet Emotion” and “Walk This Way” – and more. Cooper, Tyler and Weird Al teamed up for a cover of The Beatles’ “Come Together.” Check out fan-shot video footage of the performance below:

Steven Adler on a Guns N’ Roses Rock Hall Reunion: ‘I Don’t Foresee It’

Guns N’ Roses are among this year’s inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, an honor they’re receiving on their very first year of eligibility. Such as event seems like cause for, at long last, a full-fledged, Guns N’ Roses reunion, but according to drummer Steven Adler, the guys have no official plans to get back in the same room together, even for a cause as big as the Hall.

When asked if he thinks all five Appetite for Destruction-era members of Guns N’ Roses will show up for the induction, Adler told Rolling Stone, “Absolutely not. But, as far as I know, there is a God and a higher power, and it’s possible. Unfortunately, I don’t foresee it. You figure that time could heal all wounds, but some people just REALLY hold a crazy grudge.”

Axl Rose seems cool with Duff McKagan, Izzy Stradlin and Adler. The hope is that he’ll patch things up with guitar great Slash.  “He should be cool with Slash!” Adler exclaimed. “The real shame about the ending of the Guns N’ Roses when I got kicked out wasn’t just that I got kicked out, but Slash and Axl stopped working together. They are the Keith Richards and the Mick Jagger! The Steven Tyler and Joe Perry!

“For 20 years, because of some STUPID grudge, which I guarantee you that neither of them could even tell you what it was. They don’t even know! I just had lunch with Slash two days ago. He loves Axl. He holds no grudges towards him. Twenty years of great music wasn’t created because of some stupid grudge. That’s a shame.”

Steven Tyler Releases New Music Video, Says Aerosmith Will Play <em>American Idol</em>

Aerosmith frontman and American Idol judge Steven Tyler told Billboard this week that Aerosmith will play the reality singing competition during the show’s May 25 grand finale. 

“Oh, yeah, we’re playing the last show of the season,” said Tyler. “It was always my intention, always, to get Aersomith on the show. I mean, Joe [Perry’s] done it. I’m ready for it. I would love to play with Aerosmith.”

Tyler is referring to Perry’s 2007 performance of “You Really Got Me” with contestant Sanjaya Malakar.

Perry previously told The Boston Herald that he’d think about playing American Idol with Aerosmith but that it had to “make sense for the band.”

Tyler has also utilized American Idol to amp up attention for his new solo music video, “(It) Feels So Good,” which debuted on last night’s show. The video includes a cameo from Pussycat Dolls diva Nicole Scherzinger.

Johnny Depp Writing Songs with Steven Tyler?

Johnny Depp might have based his Captain Jack Sparrow character on Keith Richards, but he’s been hanging out with a different Rock and Roll Hall of Famer lately. According to Spinner.com, the actor has been working on songs with Aerosmith frontman and American Idol judge Steven Tyler.

“We’ve been hanging out here and there,” Depp told Extra. “He’s someone I’ve admired greatly for such a long time. The idea of writing songs with him is a dream come true.”

Of course, this isn’t the first time Depp and rock and roll have crossed paths. The Pirates of the Caribbean star played bass in a ’90s band called P, which also featured Butthole Surfers singer Gibby Haynes and Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. In addition, Depp contributed guitar to a couple of Oasis records and played on Shane MacGowan’s Snake album.
