Sharon Osbourne Hosts Zakk Wylde Roast

Zakk Wylde was roasted at Guitar World’s Rock and Roll Roast at City National Grove of Anaheim on January 19.

Rolling Stone reports Wylde was targeted by Corey Taylor, Duff McKagan, Anthrax's Scott Ian, Chris Jericho and others. Taylor told Rolling Stone: “We’ve all known each other for a while, we all love each other. So let’s just rip the crap out of each other.”

Sharon Osbourne was happy to host the event and explained that she’s known Zakk for many years. She said: “I’ve known him since he was 18. He calls me ‘mom,’ and I feel like his mom. So I can be disrespectful, horrible, mean to him for two hours and get away with it.”

Since Ozzy was unable to make the event, because he’s busy working on the new Black Sabbath album, Sharon passed on his thoughts about Zakk. “Ozzy is very proud of Zakk – very, very proud. He’s proud of the man he’s become – he’s sober and fabulous.”

Ozzy Osbourne Leads Tributes to Zakk Wylde at January ‘Roast’

Ozzy Osbourne will lead a parade of rockers “roasting” his long-time friend and former guitarist Zakk Wylde in January. The party will be held at Guitar World magazine’s inaugural “rock ‘n’ roll roast” taking place on January 19, at the Grove in Anaheim, California, as part of the NAMM music trade show.

“A raucous night of comedy, charity and chaos is planned,” organizers said about the event. A portion of the proceeds will go to the MusiCares charity, which provides a safety net of critical assistance when music people are in need.

Wylde was working in a gas station when he got the gig in Ozzy Osbourne’s band two decades ago. He’s gone on to huge solo success with his own Black Label Society.

“Roastmaster” Sharon Osbourne reckons “my boy needs a good kicking.” And joining in will be Ozzy, Chris Jericho, Anthrax’s Scott Ian, Stone Cold Steve Austin and Slipknot’s Corey Taylor.

“How can they roast me? I’m a good Catholic boy…” responded Wylde after hearing he was to be the first victim of this annual event.

Ozzy Osbourne: I Have More Lives than a Cat

Ozzy Osbourne is relishing his status as one of rock and roll’s greatest survivors. He recently spoke to Kerrang! About how fortunate he feels to be alive.

“If a cat’s got nine lives then I’ve used all of those,” he said. “I’ve used all of your lives as well. And a lot of other people’s lives, too.”

The metal legend went on to discuss the lowest moment in his life, in the early ’80s.

“When I couldn’t stop drinking. Alcoholism is ruthless,” he said. “I could not stop drinking. Sharon [Osbourne, his wife] would have parties and I’d have to be the only one not invited. At the end of the day I was a miserable [expletive] [expletive].”

Although Ozzy recently announced that there would be no Ozzfest this summer, he will be on tour with his band in Europe in June and August.
