Black Country Communion Plan New Album for 2012

Black Country Communion will enter the studio in June to record the band’s third album for release in late 2012. The hard blues-rock group comprises Glenn Hughes, Derek Sherinian, Joe Bonamassa and Jason Bonham.

Since the band's formation in 2010, they have released the acclaimed Black Country (2010) and 2 (2011) albums.

In a new interview with Artisan News, singer-bassist Hughes stated that he expects the musical direction of the band to continue in the same vein as the band’s second release.

“We just did two albums back to back, both successful records. And our live DVD is out now. We’re really, really happy with the progress of where we’re going musically. So we’re sort of on course now.

“It’s kind of a continuation… There’s gonna be some darker stuff on there, because the lyrics I’m writing are kind of dark. There may be some moments of drama in there, I like drama in the music. So the songs I have ready are definitely a continuation of [the first and the second albums].”

Black Country Communion Implore Fans to Shoot Them

With their new album, 2, in stores now and a world tour underway, Black Country Communion have reached out to their fans with a unique offer. The supergroup, featuring Gibson guitar powerhouse Joe Bonamassa, vocalist/bassist Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple, Black Sabbath), drummer Jason Bonham (Led Zeppelin) and keyboardist Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater), have invited their fans to shoot video of the group on their current tour and post it on the band’s website. The video entries with the most views will be rewarded with prizes, including an Epiphone Les Paul Special II.

Joe Bonamassa: Iron Maiden Inspired Black Country Communion

In an interview to be published tomorrow on Gibson.com, guitar virtuoso Joe Bonamassa said he’s thrilled to be in Black Country Communion because it lets him show off his hard rock chops.

“It allows me to be more unapologetically hard rock, to really explore my roots in British hard rock. Where sometimes I do that in my solo band and it’s a bit out of place, you know, and people start giving you that weird look,” he said. “But with this band, we don’t have to apologize for it; this is just who we are and, you know, it sounds like 1974.”

The rock supergroup includes Bonamassa, Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple), Jason Bonham (Led Zeppelin) and Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater). After releasing their debut album last year, Black Country Communion are set to put out their new album, 2, in June. In the interview, Bonamassa talked about being inspired by Iron Maiden on a particular song on the new album.

“With ‘Hadrian’s Wall,’ I wanted it to be like… that very British title, you know? Almost like a song that Iron Maiden would write. You know, with old wars and stuff,” he said. “And I love Maiden. I think they’re one of the most popular underrated bands in the world. I say that meaning that, not many times is a band like that mentioned in the same sentence as a Zeppelin or Metallica or something like that, but then all of a sudden 60,000 people show up for the gig. [Laughs] So they’re doing something right, you know?”
