John Stamos to Join Beach Boys’ 50th Anniversary Tour

Actor-musician John Stamos has revealed he will be involved in the Beach Boys’ upcoming 50th Anniversary Tour. “Uncle Jessie” recently told the folks at TMZ (via Spinner) that the rock and roll legends have asked him to participate.

Stamos said he was perfectly willing to simply introduce the band at its concerts, but Mike Love, Brian Wilson and Co. have a little more in mind for the Full House star. They “asked me to be part of the show ... I feel very honored,” Stamos said.

Stamos appeared in the band’s “Kokomo” video in the late ’80s and frequently appeared with the band in concert in the ’90s, performing on various instruments and singing backing vocals. In return, the band, and Love in particular, made a few appearances on Full House.

Abbey Road to Open its Doors for 80th Anniversary Celebrations

Abbey Road Studios, recording home of The Beatles, will celebrate its 80th Anniversary by opening its doors to the public.

According to U.K. music trade magazine Music Week, the famed studio has sold tickets for presentations by Brian Kehew and Kevin Ryan, authors of the book Recording the Beatles, in Abbey Road’s Studio Two on March 10.

Because the special event sold out fast, two more sessions have been announced for March 11.

<em>Time</em> Posts Previously Unreleased John Lennon Photos on Anniversary of His Death

Today (December 8) marks the 31-year anniversary of the tragic death of John Lennon.

The ex-Beatle was shot and killed December 8, 1980, at age 40 in New York by a man named Mark David Chapman at the entry to the building where he lived. His passing happened just three weeks after the release of his album, Double Fantasy, which was the first album Lennon had released since his son was born in 1975.

In honor of Lennon, Time Light Box – consisting of the photo editors of Time magazine – has posted previously unseen images of John Lennon and Yoko Ono during their “Bed-In” for peace at Montreal’s Queen Elizabeth Hotel in June of 1969. The striking main shot shows Tommy Smothers (an unknown friend), John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Rosemary Leary and Timothy Leary. Check out the gallery here.

Ringo Starr Calls for Peace on the Anniversary of John Lennon’s Death

Beatles legend Ringo Starr unveiled his self-designed replica “Knotted Gun” statue for the Non-Violence Foundation in the Gibson Guitar Studio in Central London today. He urged others to back the Non-Violence Project campaign.

Thursday, December 8 marks 31 years since John Lennon was murdered and Ringo Starr is aiming to spread Lennon’s famous message of peace.

In an urgent call to action, Ringo urged musicians from across genres and generations to unite behind The Non-Violence Foundation (NVF) and its aim to put a stop to violence affecting young people. Ringo was joined at the “Knotted Gun” unveiling held exclusively in the Gibson Guitar Studio by Bafta’s Rising Star nominee Adam Deacon and MOBO Award-winning hip-hop artist Akala.

Ringo Starr said: “I am doing the best I can – how about you?”

The former Beatle created his own design on the charity’s signature logo of the knotted gun statue “Non-Violence” which was originally created by Swedish artist Carl Fredrik Reutersward as a memorial tribute to John Lennon.

Founded in 1993, NVP is a Swiss-based, non-profit international youth education and leadership initiative. It promotes social change, with representation on five continents. NVP’s goal is to become the world’s foremost organization for violence prevention education and to create a meeting place for the next generation of leaders.

Jason Newsted Joins Metallica at Anniversary Concert

This week, Metallica are hosting a series of concerts to celebrate their 30th anniversary as a band. At Monday night’s kick-off show at the Fillmore in San Francisco, they brought out a number of special guests, including former bassist Jason Newsted, according to Rolling Stone.

Frontman James Hetfield announced Newsted as “someone who lived with us, and toured with us and did stuff with us for 14 years.” Newsted then played “Harvester of Sorrow” with the band, including his replacement Robert Trujillo. Afterward, Hetfield begged Newsted to stay for another song, and he and the band played “Damage Inc.”

Other guests at Monday night’s concert included host/comedian Jim Breuer, members of Diamond Head, John Marshall from Metal Church, Apocolyptica and Soul Rebels.

Rolling Stones Planning Anniversary Concert?

Keith Richards has suggested that The Rolling Stones may be playing a 50th anniversary gig next year in England. Their first-ever show as The Rolling Stones (actually The Rollin’ Stones) happened the Marquee Club in London on July 12, 1962.

According to NME, the band have a notion to mark the occasion. Richards told The Sun: “The idea is there. We kind of know we should do it, but nobody’s put their finger on the moment yet.”

The Stones guitarist also said he and Jagger had patched up any differences that arose from Richards’ memoirs, published last year.

“Mick pouted a bit, as is his wont, ” he said. “I told him, ‘It’s water under the bridge. I want to talk about the future. We’re larger than a little bitching.’”

News came out last week that Jagger has been working with a new group, Super Heavy, alongside Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart, Joss Stone, A.R. Rahman and Damian Marley, while Richards has been working with his X-pensive Winos band.
